Unveiling the Fairytale Fantasy Wedding Dress Designs of Your Dreams

Once upon a time…

There is something very personal about having a wedding inspired by the enchanting worlds of fairytales and fantasy, incorporating elements such as castles, forests, and mythical creatures into the celebration. Unlike traditional weddings, which often follow a more formal and structured format, fairytale and fantasy weddings allow for more creativity and imagination, making them a perfect choice for couples who want to add a touch of magic to their special day.

One of the things I personally love about fairytale and fantasy weddings is the level of extravagance and theatricality. Fairytale and fantasy weddings embrace a more whimsical and romantic atmosphere. From more elaborate styling and whimsical bridal outfits to unique venues and entertainment, these weddings transport guests into a fairytale world, creating a truly unforgettable experience.

The popularity of fairytale and fantasy weddings can be attributed to the desire for couples to break away from the norm and create a wedding that reflects their individual personalities and interests. These themes allow for a more personalised and unique celebration, as couples can incorporate their favourite fairytales or fantasy worlds into the wedding.

What is it that attracts you to this theme?

If you are considering fantasy wedding dresses inspired by a favourite book or film, focus on the costumes that catch your eye or the descriptions of them.

For example, the character Feyre’s starfall dress is described as

“Crafted of tiny blue gems so pale they were almost white, it clung to every curve and hollow before draping to the floor and pooling like liquid starlight. The long sleeves were tight, capped at the wrists with cuffs of pure diamond. The neckline grazed my collarbones, the modesty of it undone by how the gown hugged areas I supposed a female might enjoy showing off. My hair had been swept off my face with two combs of silver and diamond, then left to drape down my back. And I thought, as I stood alone in my bedroom, that I might have looked like a fallen star.”

This description suggests looking for beaded fabric choices for a sparkle effect, a figure-hugging silhouette that pools out into the floor, long sleeves, and a high neckline.

Embrace your passion and don’t feel constrained by the idea of traditional bridal attire. Remember, you can wear whatever makes your heart happy!

The Colourful Tale of a Fantasy Dress

When it comes to fairytale wedding dresses, consider dreamy and romantic colour palettes such as pastels, sparkling metallics, and soft neutrals.

You could also explore ethereal options like pastel shades, ombre colours, or painting with dye for an artistic feel.

Look to the Fairytales for Inspiration:

Incorporate elements from your favourite fairytales into your wedding, such as a Little Red Riding Hood cape or delicate rose embellishment details hinting at Sleeping Beauty.

Magical Settings:

Create magical settings with fairy lights, dreamy floristry, old books as table settings, and use of nature and moss textures like below.

Consider different venue settings like a castle for a rich historical vibe, an enchanted forest, or a waterfront location for an ethereal mermaid feel.

Modern Fairytale

For the dress design below I drew inspiration from sea and selkie folklore with an ombre effect tulle skirt inspired by hues of the sea and intricate bead and sequin details on the bodice for a glittering scale effect.

For a gothic historical novel-inspired look, consider a corseted dress like this green number with billowing sleeves and black butterfly embellishment for a unique twist.

Choosing The Right Silhouette:

When choosing the right silhouette for your fantasy wedding dress, consider all options as the embellishments can add a touch of whimsy.

For a princess look, opt for layered ballgown, circle skirts, or A-line styles.

Tip! If you have curves around your tummy area, avoid skirts with a gathered waist and opt for A-line or circle skirts that are fuller at the bottom for a flattering silhouette.
